Hi all, I need some help. I have a problem with connecting to the internet. I have a cable modem (motorla sb5100)and I have been on the phone with my isp. They say they see the modem and all, but there seems to be no communication between the modem, and my pc. I have tried a couple different nic cards to no avail, I've tried system restore to get back to an earlier time when it was working, but that does not work either. My systems specs are these
Via p4266e motherboard
p4 2.4
wd 80gig
radeon 9600 pro
512 pc2100 ddr
and the usual other stuff
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried replacing the cable? Have you tried unplugging the modem for a few minutes?
The state of ISP support is pretty sad these days. They are in the best position to fix your problem. Perhaps you should switch ISPs...

I did replace the cable and the result is the same. I really don't know what to try next. short of praying to the computer gods.

Check your TCP/IP settings, make sure you are set up to configure automitically. from a command line type IPConfig /all, and make sure your are recieving an IP from your ISP. And it wouldn't hurt to run a virus scan.

Is your nic card showing up in the device manager without an asterisk? First thing is to get the PC to recognize the card.

did you try putting the nic in a different slot?

It's the strangest thing, I took the card out, did a restore, put the card back in and voila it works. I have no idea why it worked. I had previously checked to see if it was seated properly and it was. So I don't know what happened but I'll take it. Thanks all I appreciate your help.
