I looking to upgrade my pc. i currently have an AMD XP 1700+ cpu and an AOPEN Ak77-8xn board. I would mostly like a faster cpu, but i don't know what one i should get and if i would need a new mobo to go with it. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

You should be able to run an AMD 2400+ on that board but check the MB specs first and check if a bios update is necessary.

The AK77-8XN is a VIA KT400 board, so it supports 333MHz FSB Barton CPUs. You certainly won't need a new mobo, but you ideally want PC2700 (or higher) RAM to go with it.

Barton 2800 and Crucial (2x512) would be really nice :)
