This is the ramblings of a person who's eyes are burning from the smoke from Southern Cal fires

This observation has to do with the ECS L7S7A2. This site seemed to have a pretty good K7S5A user following, but it did not seem to carry over into the L7S7A2? My feeling is the L7 was not that great of an improvement over the K7 and the NV packed a better bang for the buck? I have visited other sites and there appeared to more of a transition fromK7 to L7.

Any thoughts,

CB

I was very interested in the SiS 746 chipset when it was first announced. Looked to be a big improvement over the 745. Unfortunately there was very poor distribution. Hardly anyone other than ECS actually came out with m/b's based on it. My understanding is that ECS's later SiS chipset socket A boards have much better BIOS options for tweaking / OC'ing than the old K7S5A. The other strike against the 746 vs. the 735/745 is that the single chip design of earlier chipsets made m/b manufacturing cheaper. That advantage was given up with the 746 going back to separate chips for North and South bridges. So, with the 745 not really being much of an advance over the 735, and the 746 giving up the single chip manufacturing advantage it's perhaps not so surprizing that the later boards have never found the same following as the K7S5A.

Thanks DK,

The fires here have made the air quality terrible, the HVAC system sucks so I could not concentrate on my work, so.... I took a break and visited some sites.
It was just an observation. I noticed on one site the L7S72A had a good following, which appeared to be a transition from the k7S5A. I just noticed that each site seems to have its favorite flavor of MB's whether Intel or AMD oriented.

Thanks,
