I keep selecting 5.1 surround sound speakers and when ever I reboot it automaticaly resets back to desktop speakers?

I am running WIN ME.

Any suggestions?

I'm not trying to be insulting, but does your sound card and speaker set support 5.1?

Well, very good question. I have a Hercules XP game theater sound card and external port system. Yes it says it supports 5.1.

However the speakers are in question. they are Altec Lansing 40 watt power with 2 front and 2 rear(surround) with a subwoofer box.

Now when I purchaced this at Best Buys I was told this setup would be good for 5.1 sound. maybe that is not true.

that is what I have ,maybe this can help you determine what might be the problem.
