San Diego, CA is on fire as I type this... I had to evecuate my house and I'm staying at my cousins right now... Last I heard 3 houses on my street were burned to the ground. Not sure if mine has been spared or not, and won't be able to find out until sometime in the morning... All is good though, I did get my computer out! haha... Its pretty crazy over here right now, got a lot of stuff on video that I'll capture and post... If my house is still there that is. When I first heard about the fire this morning, my friends and I went to check it out, it was so far away from my house that I thought it had no chance of reaching me. It was clear on the other side of the freeway. But with huge wind gusts, I guess it had no problem skipping right over the freeway. Well anyway, its been a LOOOOONG day and I think i'm going to try and get some sleep... I'll need to have a fresh mind in the morning to try and figure out where all those dam wires were hooked up on my PC.... Wish me luck guys, and i'll keep you updated on the situation.

I live a couple of miles west of Interstate 15 across from Scripps Ranch, where at least 150 homes were burning. The fire spread pretty much southwest, so I didn't have to evacuate.
It was a surreal sight, seeing the whole city covered with a smoke cloud. I traveled on Interstate 805 from Mira Mesa to CA State Route 94, and I saw blue sky North of Mira Mesa and blue sky south of 94, before 10 AM. The rest of my drive, all I saw was a gray, smoke-filled sky.

Best of luck guys. The pictures on TV are bad enough, I can only imagine what it's like to see it all first hand :(

If you have a pool, get a portable pump and SOAK your house and surroundings. Saved my house in San Clemente years ago when 67 other houses burned.

Geez, that's terrible. I hope your house is still there. I know I'd be devistated if something like that happened to me. Glad you were able to save the computer, etc. I wish you luck

Thanks guys, I was finally able to get back to my neighborhood to check everything out... Good news is that the house is undamaged with the exception of a lot of ash upstairs and a WHOLE lot of ash blanketing our front and back yard. The bad news is that some of our neighbors weren't quite as lucky. There are atleast 3 houses up my street that are destroyed, and a whole lot more within a couple miles from us. Right now my family and I are waiting for the power to come back on so we can get back and start cleaning up.

Would you believe this (see attached pic) is a noon time picture a few miles west of Scripps Ranch, where they now say 300-350+ homes burned?
It's still pretty bad. At least some Scripps Ranch residents will be able to return home, and some will be able to return to where their homes once stood. :(
Lousy hunter got lost and his signal fire got out of control.

tuesday 10/28: sky in san diego still black with smoke. cant see the sun. there were at least 7 separate fires, i heard there were 3 new fires today: oceanside, encinitas, and clairmont.
the fire was awesome jumped 7 lanes of north highway 15 onto the median i guess, then another 7 lanes south 15. last i heard the hwy 5 was closed. were taping up all the doors in the nursing home where i work (rancho bernardo) to keep the smoke out.
this seems to be getting worse, not better. fire department says
all the fires wont be contained till estimated november 5. gotta get the guy who started the fires, this many fires cant be natural.

Internet is FINALLY up and running... So is our cable for that matter... Phones and electricity are still out which isn't too big of a deal yet because I use my cell phone most of the time, and we've got a generator for our power. Not sure how "clean" the power is coming form it though so i'm thinking about turning off my main machine and using one of my other not as good boxes.
