computer boots and shuts down slow

HI, my amd 1.2 GHZ computer takes like almost 1 minute to load into windows once it hits the splash screen and it takes a long time to shut down too once it says "Windows is shutting down". I have all the drivers and everything installed so could someone give me some tips. THANKS

For win 9x,hit start>run>type msconfig and go to the startup tab.You may have a huge list of apps loading at startup.The only thing you need in there is explorer and systray.You can uncheck everything else you dont want.
