A free Saturday evening looms. The wife is away all weekend in Manchester, the boy'll be asleep by seven ...

I'm trying to think of somthing really satistfying and/or interesting to do on Saturday evening for about 6 hours with my PC. I will be ably assisted by a bottle of wine.

I have a dsl connection but no DVD and i'm trying to avoid the usual 1. Read email. 2. Fire up the p2p 3. look at a bit of pron. 4.get bored, turn the pc off and watch telly.

I suspect we have all been there, so..

Any ideas? All suggestions welcome!

You need a hobby bro, why not pick up a copy of learn C++ in 24 hours and give it a whirl, do something constructive with your time, and learn a bit of Progging as well

I would like to thank you all for your suggestions and I think I might dig that SAMS C++ book out from the bottom of the cupboard.

3. look at a bit of pron.

Sorry, that was a typo. I meant watch 'a bit of Tron', a cutting edge, graphical film (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0084827/) circa. '82.

:D

if you're a scifi fan mm pop on over to www.futurenoir.com when we have the mysql database back up and running - currently doing a domain transfer

lots of the members are Carpenter fans , ask Lemerchand he knows where to get everything cheap and quality!

He is the font of all that is scifi knowledge!

Things gotta be an alltime classic - still scary even today!
Shame Carpenter couldnt find the money to get Thing II off the drawing board...

LOL I'm pissin' mesel 'ere.

This evening I have planned is really shaping up:

Wine
Tron
Starting a Morrowind (sounds painful)
massiveglobes.com

Whilst keeping a diary of the whole thing.

That's me sorted. Thanks for all your guidance.

Hang on! You can't quote me and then edit the quote.

The thread will lose it's gist. Losing your gist can be very upsetting.

You could make it look like I said "I fancy a shag with Joan Rivers".

Yeah! Well I did that one night about a year ago and I spent a grand in less then a minute. It's now worth $3500 and could have been $8000 if I would have stuck with my brilliant first investment with World Airways at 50 cents a share.
