Hi,
Would anyone happen to have a script available that would allow a user to check the registry of a PC on a network by entering either the pc name or IP address? I really need to check what "unauthorized" software our users have installed on their pc's. Specifically need to check the HKey_Local_Machine\Software\ key. I would greatly appreciate any help from you programming guru's or if you could point me to an appropriate site.
Thanks a lot.

This is not the solution that you are asking for, but would it be easier just to buy a program that does that for you? I beleive they run from 50-200.
If you are getting paid decent money it would be cheaper just to buy it. No sense in reinventing the wheel.

Well, I'd prefer to stick with a free solution if at all possible but do you have any cheaper software recommendations?

Do you need to run it over the network or can you reach the machines them selves. Adia32 and Belarc Advisor are good ones, but I beleive they lack the network features so it might not be good in a large enviroment.
Here is one that I found at download.com

Of course I have not tried it, but it could work.

Give it a rest. If you don't agree with qball's views then just ignore them. I don't see you giving any useful advice around here.

Xp has a remote registry service so u would expect M$ support to have some answers for this one.
Maybe try Technet for example script.

Found this quickly at technet: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/scriptcenter/scrguide/sas_reg_yxek.asp
So the answers are there.

Herosrest,
Unfortunately we still use windows 2000 in our environment so the remote registry service would not be appropriate in our case. Anyways, thanks for all your help guys.
