NT and '95 unable to join domain

On a new segment when I try to log into the domain with NT and '95 workstations I get " The domain controller for this domain cannot be located". XP and 2000 workstations go in. I did modify the lmhosts file to resolve the domain name. When I do a Tracert it gets the domain with the netbios name and Domain name. Example : Domain and Domain.com. I can also ping all the domain controllers by IP and name.domain and name.domain.com.

Any suggestions?

Ok, so I'm assuming that you are trying to join the domain. If this is the case, have you tried joining to the netbios name?

Have you checked the ip addresses of these machines? Do they match the rest of the network? What about the default Gateway, subnet mask, Wins server, DNS server?

What kind of server do yopu have? If you are running 2000 Server or 2003 Server in native mode, NT 4 and 9x machines will not be able to Join the domain.

Out of curiosity; what is the reason that 9x machines cannot join a Win 2k domain? Same question for NT4?

When in Native Mode, a 2000 server will only allow computers with 2000 or higher security settings to join. Thus limiting you to 2000 and XP.

There's a good chance it's the native mode issue. I've seen win2k systems get locked out because they didn't use the right security template.

No, I run a mixed mode. All other subnets can join the domain. Only this subnet and only the NT and 95 PC's can not join.

My subnet mask, DNS, Default Gateway, Wins are all set up correctly.
