I've been given a machine with one really special goal : make it use as less power as possible.

I'm looking for ideas I might have missed.

I can't change hardware without first asking owner (real low budget)

Stats : K6-2 333
Shuttle HOT-569 (Intel TX)
48 Mb RAM (2x16Mb & 2x8Mb EDO 72 pins) MB can take SDRAM (3 slots)
PCI Cirrus Logic CL-GD5434 1 Mb video card
PCI Supra Winmodem
PCI NIC
Maxtor 2Gb HD
3 1/2 Floppy

What I've done so far :

Installed RAIN
Disabled all unused peripherals in BIOS (LPT, COM2, USB, Secondary IDE)
Enabled Auto-Detect DIMM & PCI clk
Set HD to spin down and monitor to go off after 30 minutes of inactivity.

Also, would an ISA NIC draw less power than a PCI one ?

How bout an extremely low wattage powersupply, figure up the power used and get an equal p/s...

With the parts you have listed so far, I'd go with a 95W to 150W ATX power supply, something like this one (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=manufactory&catalog=58&manufactory=1320) .

If it helps, DIMMs run on a 3.3v bus instead of the 5v bus that SIMMs run on.

I think that the onboard items don't use power unless a circuit is completed (by a header plugged into it).

You will see no power decrease going to ISA from PCI. ISA will either draw the same or more power than a PCI slot.
