situation: brought notebook comput to local vendor (sells surplus used computer parts) (I found him on EBAY)-- to repalce the screen. He agreed to sell me a new screen for $100 (good deal) including labor installation...he also agreed to try the new screen first to see if the screen (vs sumthing else) was the cause of the problem (ie free diagnosis).

problem: in installing--the tech broke the F5 key and the two plastic end hinges for the screen..and..now, the brightness control does not work (altho its icon shows onm the screen).

I watched the tech--he said a wire "got super hot" while installing the new screen..he found this screen to be defective/pulled it and put inm another new one which worked OK (except for the brightness issue). ? maybe he shorted something????

so--i now have a notebook with ione broken key, two broken end hinges and a nonm functioning brightnness control.

what action(s)--if any--would you take..the vendor does noit repair machines and did me a "favor" by installing the new screen "free of charge".

I emailed him--he will send me new F5 key and the hinges but do nothing else.

what should I do now?

thanx.

i cnt diagnose the brightness problem..i could repalce the keyboard and hinge covers..but..that still leaves me with a malfunctioning but fully useabale machine.

I figure onvce the guy agreed to diagnose/intstall the machine, hes responsible for it?

All he has to do is deny that he was responsible for your currnet problem, as he could claim it's unrelated to the original problem.
There is no way for you to win this one legally. Your only recourse is to fix it yourself if he refuses. Take the parts and feel lucky.
