We'll have to check the reviews... Rob R. 10-21-2003, 12:28 PM Thanks BPB I have searched around a little but couldn't find the typical benchmark analysis that most cards have out there. All I could find was a few boards with discussions on them. Like you said, I guess we'll have to wait. :( Rob R. 10-25-2003, 03:27 AM I found some more info on these things. Article: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=908&page=1 3DMark2003 scores Volari Duo V8 ultra - 5500-5600 3D Marks Volari Duo V5 Ultra - 4000+ 3D Marks Volari V8 Series - 3000+ 3D Marks Volari V5 Series - 2000+ 3D Marks Volari V3 Series - 1000+ 3D Marks cyber_gubat 10-25-2003, 05:03 AM just read my thread......:t Rob R. 10-25-2003, 07:13 AM Oh I didn't see your post. I found new info on them so I dug up this post and added to it. Glad to see I am not the only one that finds these things intriguing though. causticVapor 10-26-2003, 01:00 PM Ati and nVidia need to be kicked in the ***. They're getting too powerful and thus misleading and screwing around with customers. I hope this XGI Volari thing takes off. If not the first generation, then the second. Rob R. 10-26-2003, 04:30 PM I couldn't agree more CV. Rob R. 11-07-2003, 11:21 AM Tom's Hardware Guide takes a look at Volari :) http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031107/index.html scottluebke2003 11-08-2003, 01:00 AM thanks for that post, i was wondering why no one had seen the THG article. They are always on top of it. It something comes out, they will have it reviewed. THG rocks. However, I was really interested in the XGI because it is a cheaper video solution. But these first cards just do not cut it at all. But I expect the launch to be much better b/c they will have time to tweak the driver and the card itself. I am looking forward to what these guys have. The days of $550 video cards needs be disappear. Thats just out of control. You can build a budget computer for that much money. Something tells me that budget computer won't allow you to do half the things that $550 video card will. ;) Rob R. 11-08-2003, 08:32 AM It is going to be nice when we truly have 3 video card choices for a mid-market card. I think this will improve the overall value of all mid-market cards with the extra competition so in this case, maybe we win for a change :) bob05 11-08-2003, 09:21 AM Originally posted by Plaster Something tells me that budget computer won't allow you to do half the things that $550 video card will. ;) Epox Motherboard for AMD Processors 8RDA3+ Retail $90.00 AMD ATHLON XP 2500 "Barton" 333 FSB PROCESSOR CPU $85.00 Sapphire Atlantis ATI RADEON 9600 PRO 128MB 8X AGP $148.00 ANTEC SOLUTION SERIES MODEL SLK1600 $42.00 Samsung SW-252FEN 52x32x52 CDRW $35.99 SAMSUNG 1.44MB FLOPPY DRIVE Model# SFD321B/LEB $6.99 Kingston 512MB DDR 400 Memory $87.00 Maxtor 40GB 7200RPM Hard Drive $59.00 Total $555 I think I'd rather build another computer like this than getting a $550 video card. :t Plaster 11-08-2003, 01:22 PM You'll need to add 4 more pixel pipelines to that video card making it a 9800pro (big performance difference) then add TV Tuner/capture, making it an AIW. +$250 You're also missing a monitor. +$250 The PSU in that case won't cut it for the parts you listed, need a minimum 350w Antec. +$50 Total: $1105 That being said, I wouldn't buy an AIW 9800pro and would get what you listed. I also wouldn't expect to get top of the line performance. BTW, the only card I've seen around $550(US) is the GFFX 5950. It is without a doubt the most overpriced card to date. maje87c 11-09-2003, 03:24 PM $250 for a monitor!? what kind of monitor are you getting? Plaster 11-09-2003, 04:26 PM minimum 19" flat screen. Not a TFT, but Trinitron. I guess you could go cheapo, but those are still over $200. SysOpt.com
