Poll: Best EIDE HDD

Who makes the best EIDE HDD? I am gonna replace the current HDD in my system. I wanna know what you think is the HDD I should buy. I play an online game (Everquest) and my HDD seems to be taxed pretty hard. The two items I am looking at buffing up are my Memory and HDD. That is the reason for this poll.

Maxtor, Western Digital, Seagate and IBM are all good drives. Try to get nothing less than 7200 rpm.

My twin 30Gb Western Digital ATA100's like running in RAID. I've put WDs in about a dozen systems so far with no failures.

Since I've heard so much bad about Maxtors drives and had one new failure and several used failures,, I quit Maxtor.
Now I wonder if they'll ruin Quantum also.

My vote is for IBM. I have not used the 60gxp series but have used the 75gxp...very nice drives http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif The 60 series is supposed to be even better. Don't let the lower # fool you.

I've personally had bad experience with several Quantum, IBM, Western Digital and Seagate hard drives. I got a 7200rpm Maxtor half a year ago and so far so good. My brother bought his Maxtor a year ago and still works great.

The problem is is that everyone has had bad experiences with hard drives, but all with different brands. So one person says IBM sucks, get Maxtor and another says the exact opposite. If you want a really reliable drive, get a SCSI drive. Those things seem to live forever. But I wouldn't really recommend them because of the price. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Many will agree with me : IBM. And to be specific, 75GXP/60GXP series.

The only difference between 75GXP and 60GXP is that 75GXP uses 15GB plates, and 60GXP uses 20GB plates. So I guess using 20GB plate on 20GB HD is cheaper then using 2x15GB plates on 75GXP, but you use only 1/3 of the second plate, so at this size 75GXP is more expensive.
