I just added a 4th IDE device to my desktop machine. My problem is one of the cables does not reach from my (master) HD to the (slave) Zip drive to the MB. Do longer cables (IDE master/slave)exist? I gotta believe they do. I've searched but no luck. Anybody know?
Thanks.

You can get longer cables at nearly any computer store, or they will make them up for you.

Or your local computer shows too. The ones around here (L.A.) have tables loaded with them!

This place sells custom length cables and you can get round IDE cables. www.montac.com/cablestore/index.html (http://www.montac.com/cablestore/index.html)

If you are going to use a standard flat ribbon cable, don't exceed 18 inches, or you could suffer data erros due to signal loss.

I've used ribbon cables in my rig as long as 30" and 36". However, RobRich is right in that some devises have problems with cables longer that 18"-24". I have a full (25" tall) tower and sometimes I have no choice but to use the 30"-36" variety!
Good Luck,
Paul

Wow, 4 times!
Keep them short or stuff will slow down, but then you have a ard drive paired with a zip drive, so what do you care about speed? You can get the 40 wide ribbon cables and the connectors themselves at computer shows, then you can make your own, to your own spoecs, so there is no more cable than necasary.
