it has a 817LMR Amptron board with a tbird 1.2Ghz that is running at 75C and I was wondering if that is safe or what? If its not what would be a good H/F for it? I was also wondering about my voodoo 3 3000 Im thinking that is running kind of hot so if you could recommend me a good slot fan I would appreciate it THANKS. Oh yeah can someone give me a link to the sisoft sandra download page.

come visit my website I just threw together and tell me what you think. www.geocities.com/versa_7623 (http://www.geocities.com/versa_7623)

75c??? That's a bit high!!!!! Shouldn't be any higher than 50c or so during a load. My 1.2 T-Bird runs at 38c. Gets to about 44 under heavy gaming..."Unreal"...etc.
Make sure you have the Heatsink on there properly and there are no gaps. As for Sandra try HERE (http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/sandra)

Can someone tell me a good detailed way to install a heatsink/fan on an amd 1.2Ghz processor?, because I might of put the puddy on wrong. Can someone also tell me a good H/F to buy that will keep it at the proper temp?
I also need a link to a place where I can download a program for windows that tells me my cpu temp.

I use this software (http://www.hmonitor.com) to monitor my Abit KT7A and 1.0ghz Athlon. It works pretty well. The upgrade to the pro gets software throttling to reduce CPU Temp. Not sure how effective it is but the monitor works well. My 1.0ghz Athlon pegs at 50c under full load RC5 dnet. 47c-48c when playing games for awhile.

60C is the highest you should go with a T-Bird. you should go lower if possible. Go GlobalWin for coolers, since my favorite (Thermaltake) has not been performing as well.

Also thermal grease(putty) should be applied in a thin even coat. It doesnt have to be real thick. I would probably pull my heatsink off and clean the grease off and try again. Making sure to coat it evenly and thin.

How come that software is showing that I have 2 CPUs? One at 47C other at 32C.

Here's a VERY detailed write-up on CPU cooler installation...

There are more out there - just search on Excite, Yahoo, Google, etc...

If the hmonitor software is showing cpu1 and cpu2 you must have two thermistors for it to be reading. I have readings on my Abit KT7A for mobo,cpu1,cpu2. In my case the cpu2 temp is the one I monitor its the one that rises and falls with load. Anyone else have more light to shed on this?

75 degrees C it too high. I believe 90 degrees C is the max for AMD processors before they self distruct. You may want to lap the heatsink for better results, and get a good one first. The 1.2 gig (and higher) produce a lot of heat. If you are interested in lapping your heatsink, Check this thread for some how-toos (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum3/HTML/011999.html)

By the way, case cooling is very important. Heat builds up in the cases, and must be removed ASAP to prevent the hot accumulated air from being recirculated by the heatsink fan..which of course will do little to help cool the sink. Most ppl are now using at least two front and rear fans of high cfm to help keep the insides of the case cool.

You can sorta prove this by removing the case sides and use an external house fan to blow ambient air directly into-onto the case-cpu fan assy. If this reduces the cpu temps, then you definately need more case fans.

Hi,
I am running a ABIT SE6 Mobo with a P III 733 CPU. It is always around 74/75 Deg C. Is this too high for this unit?

Check out this site for more info and links to data regarding all types of cpu's including max temps. It also has another software temp monitor program.
