I spent a good month researching which model laptop I wanted to buy after selling my old one. I ended up choosing an HP n5450 which has a combo CDR/DVD drive. My final decision went to this machine because not only did it have a CDR drive in it but was supposed to be an 8x8x32 drive which was good for the price range. After ordering and recieving it from CDW, I ran the software only to find it is a 4x4x24 drive instead. I am furious and was told by CDW that I can't return it. And when talking to HP they basically said "oops, we made a mistake on the specs". It clearly states on the box and sites I shopped "8x8x32 CDRW drive" So what can I do??? Aren't they obliged to install what they specify? How would you feel to order a computer with a 20GB harddrive and recieve it to find it has only a 10GB. Feel ripped off. Any suggestion on what I can do?

I have been talking to my salesman at CDW and he's been in contact with HP, so he says. I haven't heard back in a week now and want to know how they will resolve this. They told me when I placed the order that they don't accept returns but I was OK with that because I knew the machine was the one I was looking for. The one with the 8X drive.

Write a letter to the Consumer Protection "department" in the Attorney General's Office in your State. Succinctly state the events leading up to your predicament, e.g., you saw an ad, liked the specs, relied on the contents of the advertisement in making your purchase. And now CDW / HP is reaping the profit of what might be construed as deceptive marketing. Carbon copy CDW (i.e., cc: CDW), or confirm your Attorney General gets involved in such matters, and write CDW / HP and cc: Office of the Attorney General, Consumer Affairs Dept (for example). Can't hurt if you're not getting anywhere by being overly diplomatic.

Good luck and post your results, please.
