Ok I am tired of XP's defrag program is there any others that are better? What do you recommend?

what makes it better than the XP defrag?

If you have W2K or WinXP you are using Diskeeper’s lite version effectively. You will only have Boot-Time Defragging available if you have the full licensed version. There are other advantages in using the full DK version too, e.g., Set-It-And-Forget-It and many more options and features.

If you have a Symantec utilities suite, e.g., SW, then Speed Disk will be able to consolidate your directories on the fly. There are inherent risks in using this approach if your HDD or FS is partially damaged. This could result in an intractable system boot failure.

For this reason I recommend paying the relatively small fee for DK V8.

However, I really like O&O’s Defrag Pro V4.0.508

I’m beta testing their Defrag Pro V6 and have submitted a couple of beta reports this week. The interface over their present retail version has an XP feel. So the interface is a nice improvement - it absolutely flies. It is much faster than it predecessor, or DK.

DK’s Boot-Time defrag I feel is more comprehensive than O&O’s, and I have pointed this out to them in my reports. For online defragging is has to be O&O but for Boot-Time Defragging it has to be DK. Hence I use both for different reasons.

wow thanks ok I will try the Defrag Pro V4.0.508 and see how it goes. I am seeing slow down in games and I did a defrag analyze on the hdd and it found that there is a lot of fragmentation (duh!)

So thanks alot all, and you too G.

It’s a pleasure.

My advice would be to test O&O’s Defrag Pro V4.0.508 and see if you like it. Wait until Pro V6 comes out before making your purchase.

O&O do have a policy that if you purchase any of their software and a new version then comes out within 6 months, then you get that version free of charge.

Although I’m beta testing, and sending in reports for Pro V6, I cannot say whether it will be release within 6 months.

I would hang on a little longer.
