Was thinking about dual booting my computer with Linux and was wondering what flavor of Linux is the best for a noobie, want to learn the environment, but would also like a shallow learning curve, I have been looking at LindowsOS, Mandrake 9.2, and Red Hat 9.

Would also like a good Office-esque software bundle, does star office come with any of the previous titles and is there any compatability with MS Office, IE can I save in the .DOC format if I need to sen a resume out

Any help would be great

Redhat or Mandrake. Abandon all hope all ye who wouldst dare to install Lindows.

Lindows is a pay as you play OS.

I've dealt with Mandrake and Red Hat and would say either is a good bet for anyone delving into Linux. Can't go wrong either way, imo.

Im about to try Redhat but i have used Mandrake and its fairly easy to use.

Was able to manage the networking issue and browse the other computers in the house within a few hours with no manual so that should speak for ease of use somewhat.

Youll be impressed the gobs of stuff that comes with it.

I've fooled around with Mandrake 8.something, Lycoris, and now Redhat 9. I'm impressed with Redhat to the point it might become my primary OS. If I can ever figure out why Grip won't rip CDs properly, that is.

I know...shame on me.
