Bad economy, layoffs abound. It's hard to say what you'd be worth. I imagine with so many techs out of work the price is falling...it's an employer's market for sure.

Check out computerjobs.com or monster.com and see what's being offered.

You and I are pretty close, but it will vary greatly on location, up here (New England), if you can find a job, your probably in the 28,000 to 35,000 range, the market up here is getting pretty thin so the salaries are being drven down

abnd I wouldn't even place that MOUS cert on a resume for a Tech job, thats a Secretaries Cert not a Tech Cert

Salary is quite dependant upon the state you would like to live in. My organization is current after several IT positions - If you have the certs. and the skills I would expect a salary (when you can get a job) in the mid 30's to lower 40's - that is in O.C. California. Prices for housing, etc.. are astronomical here so a lower salary in a differnt state may actually "net" you a much nicer living.

You can make more than that working at Walmart without a high school education here. Most part time jobs pay more.:t

Are you kidding?

States here i come!

Dont forget everything here is also more expensive

gallon of petrol $8
can of coke $1.00
average small car $10,000
house average $180,000
small 2 bedroom flat in Edinburgh town - $1 MILLION

I take it that shocks you - and our prime minister wonders why there is a brain drain from Britain!
duh!

I live in Canada, but where I am the cost of living is cheap. Groceries are cheaper than across the border and electronics and pc's are cheap too. You can buy a decent house for 120,000 US here. Now if you go to TO or Vancouver the prices are about the same as Edinburgh. A friend of mine paid over 200,000 for a 700 sq. ft. condo in Toronto. If he wants a parking spot it's another 30,000. He has to pay 1500 a month for upkeep and 500 a month for taxes. He rents a parking spot for 200 a month.
We have a problem with brain drain in Canada too. Doctors (specialists) are capped at about 450 thousand a year. They can make triple that if they go to the US. Canadian nurses get offered 40-50 dollars an hour US plus expenses to go work there.

Up here in Minnesota you could get about 32-42k a year. Maybe higher if you have more experience.

Im in the wrong profession

But is it all really about money

Would you not be happier in a job you love with a little money

or a job you hate with loadsa money?

Both; people are happiest when they do a job they love and they get paid enough to make them happy. Whether that be 20k or 100k.

Me thinks you'll be in for a severe case of sticker shock when you arrive.
I live about 60 miles (around 100 kilometers) northwest of New York city and a 3 bdr home goes for over $300,000 and up depending on who you want as neighbors. I've seen them higher than $750,000 quite frequently due to 9/11 and people wanting to get out of the city but still be close enough to commute.
Real estate prices around here used to be based on comparitive homes in similar neighborhoods, but are now being based on what people pay for a 3 bdr condo in Manhattan so that they think anything under a million for a private house on an acre or three is a bargain.

A can of Pepsi is always a $1 or more plus deposit. Small car prices are about the same, but gasoline is $2 a gallon for premium.

Job wise as an IT tech you would be better off driving a cab unless you are working for yourself and have a nice customer base.

It encourages the recycling of aluminum. Every aluminum can recycled saves enough electricity to run your computer for about 4 hours.

Really not much of a savings because ALL refinied aluminum is processed with surplus electricity. Aluminum smelters buy off peak electricity because the generators run all the time (hydro) and you can't store electricity so they buy the surplus super cheap. It benefits the generator plants because they can't shut them on and off like a fawcet and they have to shed the electric power. That why all aluminum plants are located on large rivers next to the generating stations.
