China becomes the third nation to put men in space. The marvel isn't in the trip. It's not a technological breakthrough. It's the entire infrastructure needed to accomplish it.
While NASA is scraping for funds, the Chinese are actively bidding for European business in launching private communications satellite!

That's because it was funded, organized and accomplished by the Chinese military, not the govt. or a private entity.
If it is funded and supported by the military, then China can establish a military stronghold in space. For example, a military-based space station or a military satellite-cum-superweapon. Don't tell me that I'm dreaming because China can really accomplish that. If the US wants to challenge China in the space race, I think both of them have a good fight.

Now, if China could only feed its people..
Once the US and China can cooperate, China can get assistance from the US and both countries can propser together.
Not to forget Russia!
Three nations together as one and a triangular alliance is formed. Cool...

Hopefully this'll serve as a wakeup call to NASA and the govt here. We could loose our number one spot if we can't get it together:eek:

Sometimes CBH your observations and foresight amaze me. The primary intent for the military to support a space effort is exactly that. They are interested in spying. Get it. They could care less about a commercial enterprise.

Well! At least, you understand what I mean.
Who needs to spy? The US is giving away all the technology and paying them to take it! With all the manufacturing moving off shore and code writing following what do you call it?

Nah, Clinton just gave it to them. Don't think they did anything on their own.
The reason it's been so long since they made any real progress to speak of is because where there is no freedm there is no initiative to progress. No desire to invent. So they cannot succeed unless the wall of Communism is broken.:(
The leaders of the chinese Government will never be interested in progress, only power. Though they may progress, they will have nothing to call their own work. And that is the difference between a world superpower and a hitch-hicker.

That's why I despise communism and feels sad when KMT was pushed to Taiwan in the Chinese Civil War.
Sad...

China is more of a modern day confucian country than a communist state. Singapore doesn't exactly practice democracy as it is in the United States. Singapore jump started its economy from a desolate jungle to a modern country through a lot of benovolent dictatorship.
China is not a new country. China views itself as an old country. As such, it is patient. The United States is a new country with a short attention span.
The arrogance of the United States is going to collapse us. The national attitude of the US is that we are so advanced, no country could ever catch up! We keep looking for spies to destroy us militarily.
The problem isn't that we are sending our technology overseas. The problem is that we aren't keeping any of it for ourselves.
Anyway, China's rocket program got started by a Chinese who helped develop NASA:
In a nod to the space program's roots, CCTV also showed 92-year-old Tsien Hsue-shen, the reclusive founder of China's rocketry program, exulting in Shenzhou 5's success.
The Chinese-born Tsien, a co-founder of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, was driven from the United States in 1955 during anti-communist fervor and returned to work for his homeland.
