need help urgent

My friend opened an excell document in word and now it won't open in excell. Need help fast. Thank you.

single click the file so it is highlighted and then hold the shift key and right click the file....on the menue that comes up choose "open with" and from the list of apps that comes up choose Excel and place a check mark in the box that says something to the effect of "always use this program"

She said the shift key doesn't do anything and there is no open with when right clicking. I don't know whats going on. Thanks anyway.

I always just right click to open the drop down menu then choose open with.

If the file already has an association you will have to click on it once. Once it is highlighted hold down the shift key and then right click the already highlighted file. Now the dropdown box will have the "open with" option. select this option and when the window opens put a check in the box that says "always open with" and select the program you wish to use
