Hello.
Beeing the poor student I am, I'm now considering upgrading my system instead of buying an entire new box. My system right now:
Jetway 993AN(Via Chipset) Mobo
Celeron 600 CPU
192 Mb PC100 SDRAM
TNT2 M64 32Mb AGP Gfxboard
2 ATA66 IDE Harddrives(1 Fujitsu & 1 IBM)
Samsung CD-Rom
Sony CD-RW
Midtower ATX case.
My Upgrade components & Questions:
ABIT KT-7A 266 RAID Mobo:
What Case should I get. Do I need a 300W Power supply or does 250W cut it? Is there any difference in powersupply connectors?
Also, can you use the PC100 RAM on this board until one can afford to buy PC2100 266MHz SDRAM?
AMD Thunderbird 1,2GHz 266Mhz FSB CPU:
With the PC2100 this upgrade will cost me about $560 where I checked prices now(www.pcwinner.nu). Can I get it cheaper somewhere else that ships worldwide? I'm in sweden so they have to ship it here cheap. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Anything else I haven't thought of? Thankful for help.
/David

Ok, I can't use PC2100 on that board. Heh, my bad. Is there a similar board where I can use the DDR RAM? Any recommendations?
I have an ATX case, but I intend to keep my old parts as well, because I might rebuild the old computer for fileserving purposes and such or upgrade my parent's old 300MHz box.
Thanks for the help.
/David

Back again:
Indeed I could save up for an entire set of components, but then it would take a very long time. Now I think I can afford the PC2100 RAM Since I found it cheaper at another reseller.
It will be at least three months until I can afford the upgrade, and then I might be able to get better stuff.
..."the computer will never be faster than it's weakest link" (not a perfect quote tho...heh...well this statement is not entirely true, if I've understood everything correctly. Since I'm replacing almost all of the vital parts of the computer it should be a significant improvement.
Are you referring to my slooow harddrives? Once I can afford to replace them too, I'll propably go for SCSI drives.
BTW, what about ASUS Mobo's? Anything to go for?
Thanks Again.
/David
