I recently built a new system it runs most everything fine, however I have a Maudio Delta 44 sound card I want to use in it that is giving me some problems. The motherboard has onboard sound which will not work with the Delta installed. This is not a serious problem but I'm getting a mid frequency noise through the delta that is going to make it unusable for recording purposes. I checked the frequencies with a spectrum analyser they are 500hz, 1khz and 2khz. I'm suspecting the power supply as the problem but the onboard sound issue might be pointing to the motherbaord. I have swapped the Delta card back into my old system and it works fine with no noise. I'll list the system components below. I should note that there have been reports of problems with Maudio cards and The VIA Chipsets but they were not the problem that I'm having and were reportedly fixed with the latest drivers from VIA, which I have installed.

Motherboard: Machspeed XFC VIA P4x266E VIA 8233A South Bridge
Processor: Intel celeron 2.0GHz
Video: Albatron GeForceFX 5200
Hard Drive: IBM 80GB EIDE HD 7200
Ram: 512MB PC2100 DDR
Case: Mercury Primo ATX
CDRW: Artec Black 52x24x52x Internal IDE CDRW Drive

Wow! With a hardware menu like you have it could be lot's of issues. I sure hope time is on your side. How much did you pay for this system? Just curious. :)

Oh, and lest I forget, Welcome to Sysopt! :t

I dont know if this will help, as you said above your OB sound does not work when you have the other installed, but you should allso make sure you have the OnBoard sound disabled in your BIOS.

Oh forgot to, delighted to sysopt :):t

I've got about $400 in the system.
I've tried disabling the onboard sound. I've also started the system with nothing but the floppy powered up with the same senario. As well starting with just the harddrive powered. It seems to be a Electrical interference problem. I'm leaning towards the power supply, the case (a real cheapo) has a 300 watt supply and I've been reading that it might not be enough. I won't rule out changing the Mobo I can always use it in one of my older systems. If the power supply doesn't do the trick.

Have you tried removing the mother board from the case and placing it on a none condustive survice to see if it is the case maybe causing a small short some where? If you think its your PSU try get a lend of one just try it.

I dont think your PSU is having any trouble running your system I have a 300Watt running 2X120 GiIG HD TI4600 1 GIGDDR 2700 CD-RW/ROM Combe and a DVD Player.

Well I stumbled upon my problem. It seems the noise is coming from my 17" LCD monitor. I just happened to hit the monitor cut off switch on the power unit and noticed the noise stopped. Removed the Delta card enabled the onboard sound and it gets the same noise. Tried relocating the monitor and changing the power connections its still there. Guess its back to the CRT.

Have you tried placing the computer on the floor or at least several feet away?
