I think the point of the article was to point out that Nvidia is STILL using questionable methods to increase performance and that article just reveals more Nvidia driver cheats er I mean "Optimizations" to degrade quality to increase Benchmark scores. Pretty soon Nvidia drivers will be setting Point sample filtering by default if things keep up the way they've been going... bob05 10-13-2003, 11:22 PM Originally posted by benknobi I think the point of the article was to point out that Nvidia is STILL using questionable methods to increase performance and that article just reveals more Nvidia driver cheats er I mean "Optimizations" to degrade quality to increase Benchmark scores. Pretty soon Nvidia drivers will be setting Point sample filtering by default if things keep up the way they've been going... I really don't think those are "Cheats" (such as pre-rendering frames ahead of time to give an over inflated score). Anyways both sides have had some controversial optimizations in the past, as long as in the end the user can decide all of the options (such as AA/AF level or filtering levels) without the driver overriding it, then the new driver is ok in my book. :t Magua 10-14-2003, 01:44 AM I didn't think the new drivers had an option for the user to undo the changes. From the screenshots I have seen so far they boost performance at the price of quality, which really isn't fair when benchmarking. You can't fairly compare two cards DX9 framerates when they aren't both using DX9. benknobi 10-14-2003, 08:35 AM Originally posted by bob05 Anyways both sides have had some controversial optimizations in the past, :t Please don't lump Nvidia and ATI together when discussing driver cheats. ATI's Quake driver was fixed in the next driver release. Nvidia has been waging an ongoing FUD campaign for better than 10 months and many driver revisions. It's a matter of Degree. ATI's quake issue is old news and can't compare to Nvidia's machinations this last year. They don't want Joe Public to know how badly this Gen card is performing. It seems they will stop at nothing to continue the Subterfuge. Originally posted by bob05 as long as in the end the user can decide all of the options (such as AA/AF level or filtering levels) without the driver overriding it, Unfortunately, this is not the case. The quasi-trilinear filtering that was being done in UT2003 is now being applied to ALL D3D Games. The Control Panel won't let you set it, and most games don't give you the option. Nvidia seems to think they know best how to run YOUR card. Your just a dumb customer. What do you know about setting Image quality settings. SysOpt.com
