best capture card?

The best capture card that I have seen is intergrated with the best graphics card. I also own one and love it.

It's the ATI- All In Wonder 9800 Pro. Expensive though.

There are some bundled hardware and software that is especially made for just transfering VHS to VCD or DVD.

I have seen them at www.tigerdirect.com

I don't know that you have to go with a 9800. You can get an ATI 8500, which will be quite sufficient for most needs and is about $160 at New Egg. It'll handle most video needs quite sufficiently unless you're a mad dog gamer. The remote control that comes with the unit is worth $50!

It comes with all the software. But I also use a lot of freeware: Virtual Dub and TMPGEnc to encode, merge, and split files.

But go here to get VCDEasy V.1.15 from PCMagazine, Germany. It's the English version software. It's a free version that has been taken down from the US site. It's the easiest way to an mpeg file that will play in a DVD player. I can't figure out how to work Roxio or Nero. But this will do it.
