I'll be buying a digital camera in the next few months and a m8 recommended this camera.

It's about the right price: I wanted a good one, but not something that will break the bank. My m8 says that it also has some manual options, so you can force it to do certain things when maybe it wants to do something else... can be useful (especially if it's having trouble focussing).

I don't seem to find any negative comments about this camera http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

NE1 got any views / recommendations for other cameras??

This is the place I'll prolly be buying from: http://www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk/

Hi Krusty,
I am not a big fan of either Olympus or Fuji cameras. The reason is that the media that they use is limiting. Smart cards are great for tiny devices, but seem missused in dig cameras beause there is plenty of room for compact flash cards. Smart media is limited to 64MB, while CFC slots can use the IBM micro drives that are at least up to 1GB. Much higher capacity. Smart cards are more expensive too. There also does not seem to be a zoom. i would suggest the L
kodak 3400. It is a 2.1MP camera with a 3x optical zoom and 3x digital zoom that works on AA batteries and uses CFC media. It is running around $300 or less usd now.

Good luck
Dave

Krusty,
I have the Casio QV3000 (now superceded by the 3500), it takes compact flash and will take the IBM microdrive, I have the 340M.
The site you were looking at have it for £428, give it a look, it takes brilliant pictures, and the microdrive allows about 270 photos at the least compressed .jpg (1-1.5M/pic).

My neighbour has a Fuji, it seems pretty good, but I have to agree with daveleau, about the storage, especially Sony.

I for one like Fuji Digital cameras, I really like my Fuji MX-2900

The Kodak DC3400 that I sold was a VERY nice camera.

A little large, but well balanced and easy to hold.
Reviews said it had great color and grain.
I got it at Dell for $296.00 shipped

Please check out my latest favorite, the Olympus 700UZ, ultra zoom
It sports a 10x optical zoom and a 2.7x digital giving a total of some ~ 1200mm equiv http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
And this camera isn't very large either, about like the Nikon 800

I used to manage a camera shop here in Denver, CO. I had the opportunity to play with them all. I would pick an Olypmus any day of the week. But as far as color rendition, the Fuji did quite well. I would go in order of choice: Olympus, Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Kodak, others. Some of the newer Olympus cameras will accept either Smart Media or Compact flash. The one thing to keep in mind is that digital cameras eat batteries. It is a must to get rechargeable NIMH batteries.

Here is a link to a great review website for digital cameras.

I hope this helps. Good luck in your search. Cheers.

Ditto about Olympus cameras. I recently bought an Olympus D-510z: 2.1Mp, 3x zoom, etc. Got mine with a 128Mb Smartmedia card for $400 delivered! Good stuff.

Don't know that model, but my Fuji MX1200 has been a great little camera. Had it about a year and a half with no problems, and it's been all over. Hasn't had "kid glove" treatment, either.
Good quality & durability for my usage.

There's a wealth of information at www.dcresource.com (http://www.dcresource.com) .

The Canon Pro90IS beats the Fuji in reviews and has some great features. I was going to get one but now ...

I have my eye on the brand new Minolta DiMAGE 7 ~ 7X optical zoom, 5.24 MegaPixels! Dealers now have it in stock and prices are getting competitive. If you are going to wait a few months, it should break the $1000 barrier ... unless that would break you! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I actually own this camera (Fuji 4700) and have for about 7 months now. I've used the movie-mode a few times with a 64 meg card and it's pretty darn cool (although I use another program to convert from the weird codec that only seems to work in quicktime to mpeg)... It's a lot easier to take good quality pictures out in sunlight than indoors, as indoors takes quite a bit more practice with the flash (I'm almost always in Manual mode). I also rarely use the LCD screen other than to preview pictures since it does use up a lot of battery power, but it comes with FOUR AA NIMH's (uses 2 at a time), and you can always buy more at a few dollars a piece... not bad compared to some of the really elaborate proprietary lithium ion batteries that can easily run for $40+ on some Canon's.

The 2400x1800 resolution is pretty darn insane, and I wish there was a setting for 1600x1200, but it only allows 2400x1800, 1280x960 (what i tend to use most of the time, on fine mode @ 1280x960 on a 64 meg card, it gives me 101 shots) and 640x480.

Hope that helps!
