i was so stupid and did not recognize when entering the internet-that norton antivirus and firewall had not been installed. i had installed the internet before with all security programs.
now i have/had
1. w32.valla.2048
2. w32.randex.d
3. w32.blaster.worm

i made the first steps and could remove/repair halfway.
then i recognized with popup-windows that some files could not be repaired.
inbetween my many other actions(i tried to make av-updates(succesfully), the system wanted win2k-cd. is this the filerepair-procedure? or what should i do more beside the antivirus-actions symantec asks for.
maybe i should proceed and check if there are any mistakes left.

You have to stop the viruses in Task Manager before you can repair. You have to disconnect from the Internet too.

Listen - Symantec has all kinds of information on how to deal with this. Why did you come here? You're wasting your time here.

run the repair tools in safe mode.

yes, you are right. but i had my customer in my neck. i did what symantec told but it failed. i have tried with simple format without success. a forth virus could enter when i tried windows update(w32.hll.raleka. then i realized than there were 2 patches ...039 and 040.asp. i forgot to install them beforehand. i am using almost all the time winme. win2k-machines are resting. thats why meanwhile i did not invest more enquiries. i will now zero-fill and hope there will be no more script-errors in antivirus.

hello long-time meesters! i could write in swiss-german if you like. but no translation-program could help...

i have executed zero-fill, digged through the after-sp4-patches, checked http://www.grc.com, updated browser, will install spybot, spywareblaster, spywareguard. this could satisfy my system.
had to do these steps because one more virus slipped through due to format-only procedure and being offline.
grc.com has some nice utilities. above all 1. leaktest(norton firewall not safe! but zone alarm is safe) 2. nasties.reg(will install a list of restricted sites in registry)

YES, avg solved my problem. thanks bpb again. in http://www.grc.com was mentioned leaktest and said that norton firewall is leaky but not zonealarm. its leaky too! i have now avg and zonealarm. i think i will leave both although i had temporary access problems entering windowsupdate. after setting back something. should i exchange zonealarm with nfirewall?
