i recently got myself a Albatron Geforce FX 5200 to replace my busted MX440 but it only benches at 4000 at the best of times at 1024*768*32 and a huge 7500 @ 640*480*16 lol:x
and im thinking thats very low considering i was reading this article on the new Duron applebred and it was tested with a 5200 and that was getting 7500+ points at default settings.
the 3d mark settings are all at the lowest possible settings including AA and antialiasing are disabled so if anyone has any idea why this is happening to me :( i would greatly appreciate it thanx :t

I know your talking about 3dMark2001, but you should mention it, since there is a HUGE difference between that and 2003. Anyways if you made sure all your AA and AF is at a minimum, also adjust your startup so that only systray is running. Uncheck everything in msconfig, anything absolutely needed should start up anyways. Some programs have a dirty habit of rechecking themselves without permission (AIM for instance).

Make sure VSync's off, and all the display options are set at "Best Performance". My FX 5200 gets ~8500 points in 2001SE, before overclocking, so you must be doing something wrong ;) What CPU/motherboard are you running BTW?

hey sorry ive got an XP 2400+ @ 2200mhz (11*200) with the Gigabyte 7N400-L1 Nforce2 Ultra400 motherboard and also a stick of 256DDR ram running at 400mhz. and ive tryed all your ideas ive turned off v-sync and minimized AA and the rest all at the lowest possible and im still getting just over 4000 points (3DMark 2001SE) at stock speeds.
the card is a Albatron FX 5200EP (gigi) 128 DDR memory, stock speeds for the card are 250mhz for core and 266mhz for memory also running at 8X AGP and DirectX 9a. (non ultra or SE card)
could it just be a dodge card? cause yeah i should be getting around 8500 points by the sounds of it

yeah it already is 3DMark2001SE, lol im finding this extremely weird  but oh well im putting the card in my old computer that im selling in 2 weeks anyway and putting a Gigacube 9600Pro Xtreme in it so ill be happy but till then ill have to play GTA 3 with reduced eye candy :p thanx anyways :t

You could be right - it's probably a duff card. I know the Abit Siluro FX5200 uses inferior memory and as a result performs pretty badly (also around 4000 in 2001SE), so perhaps the Albatron's similar. I've recently replaced my FX5200 with a 9600 Pro and the difference is quite amazing :)

yeah im getting the Gigacube 9600 Pro Xtreme that has faster memory but there is a 9600 Pro with 256 bit bus so i have to decide if faster ram is better or 256 bit bus is better so far no luck as im not very knowlegable in that department

I'm not sure about a 256-bit bus 9600 Pro, perhaps ask in the video card forum. As far as I can see, the Gigacube only really differs from other PBA (Powered By ATi) cards because of the LED fan it uses. Nice touch if you've got a case window I guess. The RAM it uses (3.3ns Samsung) is pretty common on 9600 Pro cards - my Connect 3d and one of my friends' Sapphire both use it.

no such thing as 256 BUS on a 9600 series card there is only 256 memory

lol well that makes my decision much easier thanx
yeah i was sorta thinking it was a little unusual for the 9600's to use 256 bit RAM but here see for yourself this is where i got the idea of 256 bit ram from
ATI 9600 Pro VIVO 128Mb DDR, 256 Bit, 8x AGP, TV & DVI Out, 400/600MHz, Video in/Video out
and i know the normal 9600 Pro's use 3.3ns RAM but the 9600 Pro Xtreme by gigacube use 2.5ns RAM, well thats what it stated in a review by overclockers NZ

2.5 ns? wow thats quick maybe you should get it if its true

It's a bit hit and miss with the RAM sometimes. The reviews I saw for my Connect 3D said it came with 2.8ns Infineon, but the card I received had 3.3ns Samsung. I'm not too bothered as it overclocks really well anyway. Perhaps the reviewers sometimes get "extra-special" models, or maybe the company decides to cut costs/just change memory suppliers at some point.

Its a common ploy for manufacturers to send out review samples with schnitt hot RAM or produce the first batches with the fast stuff, to get the hype up, and then make the majority of the production cards 3.0/3.3ns

lol well ill jump in now and get it if it is indeed true the first batches are faster to get the hype up
