While viewing the forums here at SysOpt, IE 5.5 won't go BACK.

When I hit BACK on the toolbar, or <backspace>, or <shift+mousewheel backward> the IE icon swirls like it's trying to load, but there's no modem activity, and the page doesn't change. Sometimes on the 2nd or 3rd try it will go back, but sometimes it just refuses to budge. ... very annoying http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

THIS ONLY HAPPENS AT SYSOPT.

note* socalgal reported having to click twice on the BACK button when certain websites were in the host file, but there's nothing in my host file now except doubleclick.com and goclick.com

I have to click Back twice here alot too. When I downloaded the preloaded "host" file tweak I had to click twice everywhere I went. (only on my ME machine) I'm guessing it could be the banner ads that load makes IE think its a "second" new page?

Steve R Jones is right. It's the banner ad's that are going back first. It isn't because of the host file I don't think.

I'm at the moment using the host file found at
http://www.geocities.com/a3a17013/tippages/beemerswindowstips/hosts.txt

When sysopt changed the addressing of their banners to a sysopt address this started to happen. You will find this double click will happen without the implimentation of a host file on some sites where the ads are coming from the same host address as the page you are on.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Cheers!

And the addition of the new reminder window on a reply page has to load a banner as well.

Here's what I get if I only hover over the back button:

Cheers!

Thanks guys,

Specifically, I believe it's the ad(s) from HP that are served by ad.doubleclick, because the "BACK" problem doesn't happen when ad.doubleclick.net is removed from the host file.

Your lucky ive had to switch to opera because every time i clicked back at any website ie crashed this also happened upon closing windows very annoying when a banner ad pops up.

Are all of you using IE5.5? I'm using IE5.01 w/all the Host file "blockers" like you (ad.doubleclick.net), but not having the "back" problem.

Now that makes sense BFlurie,

I've had ad.doubleclick.net in my hosts for as long as I've known about the host file, but I've never had this problem before.... last week I "upgraded" to IE5.5
