I'm looking into getting a DVD burner. I was just wondering what anyone's experience is with how long these drives last? Would it be a good idea to spend a little more to get an extended warranty? Let me know what you guys think.

well, seeing as how they are pratically brand new (in the mass-production sense of the word) Id hope to all hell that your burner hasn't worn out yet :) and since nobodies has broken yet, nobody can tell how long they will last

Yup, too early to tell. But, I havent heard of them having problems breaking early, would suspect they are like any other optical drive. Some last forever, some don't. Usualy, you get what you pay for.

Yea. But what I'm really asking here is if you guys think it would be a good idea to pay a little more and get an extended warranty?

I wouldn't, since chances are by the time it breaks DVD burners will be fairly cheap. Whats the default warrenty?

The manufactor's warranty on it is only a year. That is why I was kind of thinking about it. If it doesn't last that long I could just send it in and not have any problems with buying a new one.

I guess I would decide based on how much the extended warrenty was, and how long it extended the regular warrenty. Out of curiosity, what DVD burner are you looking at? and where are you looking to buy it?
