ive seen 2 different setups in computers - heatsinks with fans blowing hot air out of the heatsink, and ones with the fan blowing cold air into the heatsink. just wondering if anyone had any opinions to which is better, or if it doesnt really make a difference at all.

The ones pulling air out have shrouds, to dirrect the air, this is better than blowing air in, but without the shroud it is not. If you have a shroud, it is realy stupid to blow air in.

This is a subject that's started to interest me.KillerBug,you're kind of right in your statement, but, what kind of heatsink fans are we talking about?CPU,PS,VID,Sound,Accelerator? If they're internal fans,I don't think it makes any difference which way it blows. You have to get that hot air out of the case and refresh it with cool air in a uniform direction.Since hot air rises ATX mid/full cases should have a fan low in the front, and one in the top rear; blowing in(lower)to out(top).I'm thinking this should be a standard for all ATX cases.
It seems like most of the people that are on this BBS,have computers that are bought from independant shops,or,assemble them on their own.The type of case they buy seems to be the last thing on their agenda....hmmmm.
Well,it seems I have a new project to do!I'll get back to ya'll later.......DawgTuff.

Well, if you have a shroud, and you blow the air in, there is a lot of trapped hot air getting blown onto the base of your heatsink, this is bad for cooling. If you don't have a shroud, it is better to blow in, because the air will circulate the best around the whole areas of the sink, where sucking up would mostly move the air at the top of the sink. Sucking up air with the shrouded type brings air from the base an pulls it up and out, which still makes warmer air moving past the tines inside the shroud in my opinion. but who knows. I couldn't oc my amdk62 300 to 400 untill i blew the fan in...and did some other stuff too lol
