ever since I got that pe_magistra virus and got rid of it, I`ve been having some video and sound problems. It seems to have deleted a file called QV.exe and as far as I can tell that was a Quicken file. I kept getting an error at startup saying it was missing. SO I just removed Quicken and it still gave me the error. Then I tried a dirty install of 98 thinking that would replace anything that was missing,Wrong. So I just remove the reference to that file in startup in win ini. Now everything seems to work ok except a moto racer game and my email notify .wav.
While playing the game and alot of bikes are crowded up in a group, the game stutters or acts like it skips frames. When you get out away from all the action and are racing alone, it works fine. Also when my email .wav plays, it acts like it skips. I have un-installed this game and re-installed it 5 times and I cant get it to work like it should. It worked perfect before.

A clean install of your OS may be the "simplest" (only sure fire) solution. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Try reinstalling directx. If that doesn't help, try reinstalling your sound card drivers/software (after uninstalling them). Then try reinstalling your graphics card drivers/software (after uninstalling them). You could also try reinstalling your motherboard's chipset drivers.

You might get lucky and if it means avoiding a clean install... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Edit: What's Quicken anyway? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Man I sure hate to dump this thing and start all over. I had already reinstalled direct x and it didnt help. After I made this post I went and played a mp3. It skipped twice in the beginning and leveled off, then played some more and never did it again. In the moto racer game, it`s almost like the pc cant keep up with the graphics when starting, then after you get out front it gets better.

This might help take the pain out of a fresh install:
