Games, Ports and Firewall

I don't know so much about network so when playing games i meet some problem with firewall and ports.So what ports will we use for playing games ? What decides it ? I mean games or windows, programs...If you know about them please tell a detail.Thanks

Each game uses different ports. You provide the detail first. Better yet, use Google to seach for the name of your game and the word "ports". For instance:
