...according to ATi.

I find it difficult to believe, yet possible.

I doubt it. It would be like saying an O/C'd 5600 Ultra beats a 5800 Ultra. It just doesn't. :p

maybe it's just wishful thinking, but i think it is possible. i really would like a sub 200usd card to perform like that.
now just imagine what it would be like if they made that same card with 8 rendering pipelines and 256bit.... oh my....:t

Once I heard about GeForce2 family "No MX can get to GTS speeds".
Same is true here. R9700 got twice raw power and twice memory bus. Period.

EXACTLY. Even raising the mph on a road isnt as good as having 8 lane highway vs. 4 lane. Get the idear. Like 4 lanes max mph of 80. Vs....8 lane with max mph of 55mph. The 8 lanes though slower will allow more trafic flow-thus better. Mem bandwidth and the highway analogy work good. Kinda like plumbing to electronics analogys.;)

Plop down another $50. For $250 you get a NP 9800. Its faster at high AA AF and res then the 9700pro due to the mem enhancments over the older core. Smidge clocking and you got the pro. The ATI market is ALREADY the best $ deal per performance.

ahh... way to make me happy again... now if i could only get that check for my car so i could finish the dag gum machine...

i still think the 9600xt with 8 pipelines and 256 bit would be the hizzle fo shizzle.
has anyone found any 9600xt benchmarks? and when are you actually supposed to be able to buy the xt cards?

We'll see, I guess. Unless they've done something remarkable to the core that we don't know about, I find it VERY difficult to believe that it will exceed 9700 performance.

If something like 8 pipelines is enabled, however, it could come to truth.

Well now what does it take for them to make any huge breakthroughs like an 8 pipeline gpu using the .13 process with refinements from the 9600 core as well? Competition - sadly they don't have any to the point where they need to roll out anything that is something that will kill there current cards and nothing else. Why make what you have obsolete, that means you have stock you have to get rid of for cheaper when you can sell it for more if you don't and wait until it's needed, then they roll it out and cut their losses on the lower end cards. Unless nvidia can up performance without killing IQ and quit throwing more and more tarnish on their name they don't need to make anything faster than the XT's really.

The 9700 Pro is obsolete to ATI...They don't make them anymore. Two more years and budjet cards will be close to 9700 performance

2? I doubt even that especially since it seems like nVidia is starting to get their act together. Of course not enough to dramatically increase ATI's competition, but if they keep at it then I wouldnt be suprised to see that in 9 months ATI will be selling 9800pros for the same as a 9600pro right now. Wouldnt that be grand.... :D

it would be grand but then if u think of it the newer games they will come out with will require new and better cards,

the 9800 pro will be like a 9600 pro at price but performance will be lower then the newer cards

Obviously...they're not going to produce a card that has the same performance as their budget model.

Nope... the 9700 Pro still beats the 9600XT, despite what ATi said earlier.

Yep, looks like more and more agree that Ati's statement was a bit exaggerated, to say the least.

(hugs his 9700 pro)

And noneof those video card makers has ever exaggerated Before.....have they? ;) :p :p
