Why do pictures and banners in JPEG format look so ugly in AOL, while IE displays them just right? Is there anyway to produce Fireworks 4 graphics that look good in both browsers?

Go to My AOL, Preferences, WWW, Web Graphics and uncheck "Use Compressed graphics".

the down side is... you will only be able to save graphics in .bmp format, and it is about time AOhell sorted this out, nobody wants it.
