My friend is moving to England and has a new ATX p/s computer.

Anyways, can he bring his PC along and move the power supply to 220 volts and plug it in and make it work or not?

Yup, moving the switch to 240 is all that's needed. Oh... and he'll need computer power cables for English wall sockets.

Yes it'll be fine! As DanU said, only the cable (plug) will need to be changed ($7).

The switching power supply will cope with the frequency difference, too.

*ahem* remember to switch back to 110 if your m8 goes back to the 'St8s..... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/redface.gif

Just make your mate aware that any Printers/ Scanners etc that he intends to use in the UK will aslo need to be able to deal with a 230V 50 Hz Input

He'll also need a new modem -> phone line cable, assuming canada has the squat little american ones.

Possibly a new modem altogether, for diferences in dialing possibly?

A US modem should work without any problem in the UK. When we took our comp with us to London last year all we needed was a new cable (US --> UK) to plug it into the wall.

When you get a call though, the rings are different, two quick rings instead of one long one.

Good thing he doesn't have a modem. He is going to University of Manchester (sp?) anyways, I think he wants to hook up to cable or DSL if they have it there so that should be no problem.
