Anyone out there ever seen a case with the Power Supply Unit mounted at the bottom instead of at the top?
Surely it would make for a more stable PC (as its centre of gravity would be lowered) and seem quieter as the PSU's fan would generally be further away from your ears.
I once had an old AT case that was set up like this and it had quite a few advantages.
- More stable
- Easier access to cards as they are now at the top of the case
- Different/Better cooling possibilities
- Case window locations much more pleasing

The old AT one I had was just a normal case that seemed to have been modified slightly and inverted. Thios meant that instead of the mainboard being mounted on the right hand side, it was on the left and had the PCI slots at the top and keyboard/mouse/etc at the bottom.

But then heat rises and alot of psu' have a fan on the bottom to help push out that hot air.

Had an old '386DX server tower with the PSU on bottom. The mobo was also mounted on the left side. The Hard drive mount was on top of the PSU. Tower was all steel and weighed a ton.

turn the case upside down.

But then I'll not be able to use my CD drives and all the data will fall off my hard disk.

flip the cd-roms upside down in the case, and then turn it over :)

Nothing to stop you turning your devices upside down as well, then they would be right and no data would fall of your HDD.:D
Try it I can't see any benefits myself but if thats what you want...

The mounting holes at the sides of CD drives are not vertically centred. That means that if a case has those little drive support tabs then extra holes need to be drilled of the drives just have to sit there loose.
I could use construction adhesive but it'd be rather difficult to remove the drives at a later date.

Also, what happens if someone breaks into your house and steals the computer. It'd be a real blow for them to set up the PC the 'right' way around and have it fail on them. I just wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that that might happen.

The whole point of the PSU at the bottom is that it would make the computer significantly easier to work on than if the PSU is at the top, with its **** cables hanging in the way. Most good PSUs have a couple of fans that would efficiently exhaust any heat produces by the PSU itself. Add a couple of case fans near the top and you'd be cool as something thats very cool indeed.
