My NIC went bad so I replaced it. trouble is after replacing the NIC, WinXP PRO takes it sweet time letting me use the machine after I log in. logging in is fine, I just can't do anything with the machine for 10 minutes. then it is fine. I looked for the orignal NIC to remove it from XP, but I cannot find it. Please help

did you look in the device manager in safe mode?

I tried that and saw no other NIC. I also ran the repair option.

uninstall all network options and then reinstall with the latest nic drivers.

I doubt that it is a true "hidden" device. if you go to device manager, you can click on view - show hidden devices
