the 3DMark's are free, i haven't used the others Jakk listed, but i'm assuming they are free also...

the 3DMark website does have links for versions which you do have to pay for, but you can get away with the free ones just fine

PiFast is rather slick, I like it!

Also, POV-Ray 3.5 for Windows boxes is rather neat... a great way to test your true Floating Point math capabilities!

Sandra doesnt say anything about real life performance, only theoretical performance.

I would also recommend the Unreal Tournament 2003 benchmark. Its free, but you have to download the whole UT2003 demo afaik. If you have the game: the benchmark is included.

...yes, we all know that, but its one of the few benchamrks that can give results for nearly every core system component, wven if they are 'theoretical'/syntetic benchmarks. For that matter 3dmark is a sythetic bench also

I use 3dmark2003 and Aquimark. Both are free limited use, then there are upgrades to pro. 3Dmark2003 is pretty worthless if you don't have a good video card, stick with 2001.

The UT2003 Benchmark is free for unlimited use afaik.
