Whats the best way to get connected to the internet via laptop in London, Paris and Venice as a vacationer? Is there a service that covers all 3 areas?

are there any issues of modem type?

The best thing to do is to sign on to MSN before you go. You can get 1 month free. They have POP servers and access all over the globe. So do Earthlink and (God forbid!) AOL. The modems are standard world-wide, but phone charges may be high.

why don't you check if the hotels you are staying at have internet access provided? lots of hotels are going wireless.

Lots of hotels are going wired...for broadband, for that matter.

Call ahead...if you haven't already...

It wasn't too pricey last time I used it, like 8 bucks US$ a day...but, then again, company buck..

Remember, as well...if you use their connection...you may have to use their outgoing mail server name to send email...

I use Comcast, and I remember I had to change my SMTP to theirs to be able to send...

Just my .02

I only got $.01. The government took the other one. :( I'm so poor, I can't pay attention. :p

At last its not me.. its my boss and he needs a simple setup and go... when he gets their he will not be into changing nic info for wired nor anything else for that matter... I think earthlink sounds good. we can set it up here and test it.

Boy..do I cringe at the thought of those statements...depending on their knowledge level....

Although...sometimes too much knowledge can be dangerous too!

Since a dial up requires only changing the access number...and a broadband may require static IPs or DHCP, different DNS servers...etc., it may be the best choice.

Seldom have the help desk folks at hotels been that...help...!

Good luck.
