Hey Guys,

Well I know there's a lot of security buffs on this site, so I decided to ask everyone this question.

I have heard that some of the major instant messaging services such as Yahoo and MSN, have some major security holes. Security holes which allows basically anyone who has the tools, to perform various tasks. Such tasks as stealing passwords, IP spoofing, you name it.

So I'm curious. Are these just rumors? Or has anyone had any personal experiences concerning this issue?

I know that Yahoo and MSN are constantly patching up these security holes, but is it really worth it? Is it safe to use these instant messengers?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
-SpiderBot

I have not heard anything specifically about Yahoo, AIM or MSN (and I am not a security expert), but I do know that ICQ has serious issues. There are loads of apps out there for hacking ICQ. It is open source to promote international chat with loads of options, but this is also why it is so hackable.

If you need "safe", instant messengers simply aren't the answer.
