... and all the ego-trippers on BF1942. I'm pretty sure they are all under the age of 17. T H I S (http://firingsquad.gamers.com/gamersopen/thresh/) article sings my song. I've never played Tribes 2, but I play BF1942 alot ( as Fah-Q ), and sometimes I wanna reach through the miles and miles of cable and strangle the little bastards. Sorry for the harsh language, I'm just a little peeved  .

That's a pretty big cut-off as far as the ages go. I'd say a good deal of the gaming population is 17 or younger. I don't TK, but I fit in there.
I've never played either of the games, but I do know how people can be absolute jackasses. However, I think the article leaves out an important aspect of gaming. They mention people doing the 'dirty work.' Now, I know it isn't mopping the floor or anything, but if a task in a game isn't interesting enough, isn't that a problem? I mean, I'm all for team play, but I'm also for having fun. If one task is boring and another is not, there is obviously a problem when a more boring task is a heavily relied upon one.

Depends on what is considered "boring". Look, I like sniping, in fact, that is what I do alot of. Is it boring? Absolutely. Do enough of anything and it becomes tedious. Do I resent being shot in the back by a team mate just because I reached the plane faster that him? Do I hate being shot at by team mates even though I just captured the enemy flag? Do I hate running around trying to deperately capture spawn points whilest my idiotic team mates are busy shooting at each other?? Gawd, it's almost like being the baby-sitter for a bunch of moronic 8 year olds. Get a life? You bet. I'm almost ready to start a new hobby. I'm already teaching myself guitar now, maybe I'll start basket weaving just to get away from those frustrating online games ;)

team killing is fun, it makes the game funny sometimes its fun just to screw around the game sucks when everyone is so serious all the time
I play Tribes II alot an it's the best game I evered played. There are many different roles you can play in the game an many different game types. As for TKing T2 has three ways to deal with it, 1: Servers can Kick or band TKer's an servers can setup a mod to deal with TKer's 2: T2 comes with preset for servers that can deal with TKer's that can be turned on or off! 3: Players can vote to kick offenders!
I've seen CHEATERS on T2 but they vanish 'cause of the above method of dealing with these A**HOLES!

What if I walked up to you and punched you in the nose (in real life)... then, while you were reeling from the blow, started kicking you in the groin and as you fell to the ground, started to kick you in the head, just because you were too serious for me? See what I'm getting at? TKing is NOT COOL. We live with rules. Living by psychopathic tendencies is not cool. End of story.

I happen to agree with you X51. We have a little clan going in bf1942, mostly desert combat mod, but you're more than welcome to contact me via email, and I'll get you in touch with the leaders of the clan. I am not able to play much these days with my system being bare and down most of the time while I await my new motherboard (that hopefully will work this time) and I am stuck out in dialup hell, but the guys in our clan are older, in their 20s, and they are pretty darn good. We're always looking for other members. We'll be looking for other members in other games as well once I am able to get my site up and going properly.

I love multiplayer games but there are a few things that drive me up the wall. Lag from people with slow machines/connections (and teammates dropping), Hacking, and kids who like to get attention through the web by acting like an idiot (not all young people do this, but its mostly young kids).
Dennis Bacon - If you need attention that desperately I would honestly suggest you seek profesional help.

I play bf1942 alot too. Seems most of the servers have friendly fire turned off, so if there's a bunch of tker's I just move on..no big deal.

TKers on ANY game suck the big one. Also, people who just sit there and complain about how good someone is and continuously call them cheaters and whatnot are about as annoying if not moreso than the TKers. TKing _can_ be funny, but you dont do it every single fkn spawn time. If there is only one of the opposing team left compared to your 10, then yes, a TK war would be funny to watch. Go ahead and flame me for saying that, because I've been contradictory in here, but I think that most intelligent people will understand. If you TK, expect to get hated.

No it can't, UNLESS you are playing with real life friends, in which case throwing a few rounds there way can be fun.
I dont care if its 10 on 1, I would never shoot my own teammate.

I was talking about a LAN party type senario... you dont shoot teemmates during online gaming... and even if you are in a LAN, you should def make sure everyone is cool with it

I was the leader of my own CS clan for over 2 years. Ran my own servers, etc etc.
I also hosted or supplied the server hardware for a LOT of LANs. What you found out at LANs was the following:
FF could be enabled without worry, as 99% of the player populatiion didn't behave like babies at a LAN
People who acted immaturely were asked to leave (at least at the LANs I hosted/ran)
Most LANs run for a day or more without incident, unless beer is involved :D

At some point do you have to tell yourself that it is ultimately just a game, you're not going to mature an entire online nation of pre-adolesent techno-geeks, they are going to do what they are going to do, do yourself a favor, start shooting first...........take names later

Ive been playing halo multiplayer, fortunately I havent had any TKers in my game. You can turn off friendly fire...but thats no fun.
In halo the host has no commands that I know of to boot players. Or any commands to do anything for that matter. I always host since it seems every other game is hosted by some 56ker, who makes wacky *** rules.

TKing is not part of the game. Show me a game manual that suggests killing your own team for additional fun.
I had a guy in my halo game today that kept switching teams to make it 4 on 2. Had to end the game, wasted a lot of peoples time. Fortunately you can turn off team switching, but you need to start a new game. I can't believe they didnt put any commands for the Host (boot, ban, etc.) MAJOR drawback of halo Multiplayer

TK'ing = spoiling the game for the people you're supposed to be playing with.
People play games because they like it. TK'ing is saying you can't enjoy the game unless you take away someone else's fun.

Excellent way of putting it, Rugor. And Dennis, the only "issues" I have is with people... maybe like you, I don't know, but from the looks of it, you are one of those TKers... . Anyhow, I'm not gonna start flamming you just because you are a TKer excuser and defender. You have your opinion and you are entitled to it.

That is true. But also if you do well people assume u cheat. On starcraft I gotten pretty good, I have some really cool replays to prove it. But in those games people would say that I am a hacker....blah blah blah.
As of tking in bf 1942.......sob's make me sick. I am a 24 yr old gamer so those kids tking get on my nerves. I sometimes just tk them back but that does not stop them so I just leave the server.

When we talk to the people who use GameSpy Arcade, one of the biggest complaints people have when they play games online is how hard it is to find a "good" server. I don't mean a server with a good ping -- I mean a server that's not filled with weenies and cheaters. You're in luck if you happen to know a server administrator; someone who actually cares and who takes the time to ban cheaters or people who try to ruin the game experience.
So we're tinkering with a new product here at GameSpy: Monitored Game Servers! These servers will be limited to GameSpy subscribers only, and because of that, we can guarantee a level of service you wouldn't find elsewhere. We'll have dedicated server admins running anti-cheat software and actively banning troublemakers. And since you're pretty much guaranteed that only hardcore gamers are logged in, you won't get the usual compliment of clueless trollers and teamkillers, all Tkers Ip will be added to the black list any one who runs a server can get the black list and block them from there server.

Just relax man... It's only a game after all. :)
They annoy me as well, but you can't get so stressed out about them.
BTW - Many of them are over the age of 17. I know quite a few players that aren't the nicest, and they are at least college age and up. ;)

10-04-2003, 07:26 PM
It's not getting stressed out, it is simply this, and it holds true for any game:
I play to have fun. If someone I am supposed to be playing with (as opposed to against) is playing to have fun by preventing me from enjoying the game.
I don't want to play with people like that and WILL make an effort to avoid them.
Magua

Many of them are over the age of 17. I know quite a few players that aren't the nicest, and they are at least college age and up.
Many of them are, MOST of them aren't. There are always exceptions to the rules.
I play to have fun. I don't always have time to play as much as I would like. It sometimes takes a lot of time to find a good game to play, then once you get in someone leaves and is replaced by someone who ruins the whole game. I don't like wasting my time.
Maybe its time for me to look into clans...who knows.
