I was just wondering how fast connections people around the world had. Australia unfortunately still has very little companies offering broadband access.. and some of the companies cap their connection rate at slow rates as well... and how fast do you d/l as well??
Telstra Big Pond Advance, Australia
Conn.: Unknown! (it's uncapped, around 4Mbits) And uncapped upload (i dunno how fast!)
Speed: around 300-600kb/sec (depending on site)

This was at 12:30 on a Saturday, using Time Warner RoadRunner.
*shrugs* I'm disapointed in it's performance.. If it's like this, they need to drop the price from $40, it's rediculous!

I can get 315 Kbytes down maximum, and about 50 Kbytes up maximum.
The town I live in is a small community of about 16,000 people in the middle of nowhere, apparently Time Warner didnt see a need for any more bandwith here than that.
The company I work for tried to get a DS3 for our internet backbone, but couldn't because "there arent enough circuits coming from columbus to accommadate a DS3"

Just got ADSL on Friday (BT openworld), 512down\256up but it's actually a bit higher (I connect at 576000 bps). On AT&T@Home, download speeds vary all over the place depending on where you're downloading from, but the highest I've ever actually seen (I lost my screenshot of it in my reformat I think) was around 443Kb/sec. That is Kilobytes. There's nothing gayer than people using kilobits and **** like that. But the fastest I've ever gone was downloading IE 5.5 with one of those update progs. I was getting **** near 1 Mb/sec. It was awesome. That is just based on my looking at the bar go across and reading the part recieved/total thing. It didn't have the actual speed. It was like 1...2...3.. you get the idea. I could post some screenshots of faked speeds if you want.

Depends from where ...
directly between me and my cable company : about 1 to 1,4 MB/sec
between me and the fast internet : (download.com with fastest mirror used etc ..) 500 to 700 KB/sec
between me and the average internet 250 to 500 KB/sec (depends on trafic/time and location)
between me and russian sites 1 to 3 KB sec .. I think whole russia is connected to the WWW with ONE single 56k modem as main router and everyone there uses 9600 baud modems ...

Well, it seems like everyone is using Kb and KB interchangably... I've even seen a kB somewhere in here.
A bit (b) is the smallest possible piece of information (a 1 or a 0), right? A byte (B) is 8 bits, correct?
Therefore a kilobit (Kb) is a thousand bits, and a kilobyte (KB) is a thousand bytes. Right?
That said, using @home cable (Cogeco @home, in St.Catherines), I get about 1200 Kb (that's kiloBITS), so about 150 KB (kiloBYTES). That's downstream. Upstream, I get about 600 kbps, so like 75 KB.
I think everyone should go to dslreports.com and clock their connection... then we could have everyone's exact speed (it works for cable and dial-up, too)

Well... for the guy up there that is sick of its 256/256 connection, I would gladly exchange. I am pretty happy with my connection and its a 56k. I am using a creative modem blaster di5660 (isa http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif) but it ussually connects at 53.2 using win2k. And dowloads and uploads speeds are average of 6kB/s with highs up to 11kB/s.
One thing I wanted to mention is... If you are transferring at 53000bps you are transfering at 5.3KB/s This is because you have 8bits in one byte + 1 start bit + a stop bit so 10bps =1 Bps.
I called my DSL company and I should get my cable modem pretty soon... 256/128 @ 60/month http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif but... SPEED AT LAST (of some sort... )
