Hello there guys :t

Well i just got BF1942 with its expansions (Road to Rome & Secret Weapons of WWII) of course it is patched to 1.45.

My problem is that everytime i play it it crashes to desktop with no apparent reason, sometimes it crashes after 15 minutes and sometimes it crashes after 1 ½ or 2 hours... is this a known issue of the game or what...

My specs:

- Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP1 (with all the patches, critical updates and upgrades up to date & Dx9b).

- AMD Athlon XP 2000+.

- 512MB DDR SDRAM PC2100 266Mhz.

- MSI KT4 Ultra (Latest BIOS 1.4) (Hyperion 4.49 drivers).

- Audio: On Board CMI8738/C3DX (Driver version 5.12.1.643).

- Chaintech AG446 with no fan, just the black heat dissipator (or whatever you call it on the EEUU lol) AGP 2x/4x Geforce4 MX440SE 128MB DDR w/TV Out with Forceware 45.23 drivers.

- Samsung SyncMaster 700s 17".

- WDC WD300AB 30GB HDD. (5400rpm).

- LG GCC4120B DVD/CD-RW Drive.

- Lite On LTD-163 DVD ROM Drive.

- CNet Pro200WL PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (driver version: 1.25.1.725)

- Intel V92 HaM Data Fax Voice. (Driver version 4.47.2.0)

All my other games run fine, even Vietcong and SoF II, i can play for hours and they never crash that's why i guess the problem has to do with BF1942.

Any ideas and suggestions are welcome and i thank you in advance for all of your posts here...

Gokudan... :D

P.S: All hardware drivers are WinXP certificed and digitally signed ;)

sorry buddy but I think it is your gf card.
I had similar issues with a gf 4 mx 440 64mb......it would freeze after a short while.

Are you sure? my PC or the game do not freeze, it just closes the game and there i am, in front of the Windows Desktop, or is this a GF4 MX Card issue also?

Thx for you response Logan2002..

Um are you still using the gf mx card?

If you are then let me tell you....I did all of the same things you did. ALL OF THEM. Man i messed arround with drivers and it still came to one thing......freezes, crashes and sometimes 10 mins into a game so you think you did something right......NOT.

Anyways people told me hear it might be the gf mx card so i got a radeon 7500 no issues whats so ever. Oh yeah if you can add ram to your setup then it will be even better. This game eats up ram like crazy!!!

Hope this helps!

I do not think it is related to your video card, as my sons computer has an abit mx440 and he plays for 5 or 6 hours at a time and have seen no lock-ups or thro-outs. Not the fastest card in the house, but seems to be pretty stable. I'm using the newest nvidia drivers on his pc with directx8.1 ithink. BF1942 patched current. Win98SE.

It is also loaded on a spare pc we have that has a bloody monster mx440SE and although it does not get as much playtime, it seems to be OK. I only mention these two machines because they have 440 chips. The other two game pc's have GF4 Ti's so aren't relevant.

I wish I could help, cause I love the game and would pull my hair out if it gave me probs.

Logan, it could be specific to that make of 440, but not the 440 overall methinks.

Well it might also be a mobo/gf card thing. In my wifes pc her games run better brighter than when the mx card was in my pc.

We often play the same games as well. It is just with bf 1942 that is the only thing that worked for me......I have a VIA chipset but my wife has a VIA P4266 chipset.

Well Logan2002..yes i'm still using...and i do not want to sound rude but money does not come easy on south america and plus it is new..i bought it 3 and ½ months ago....but thanks anyway for the advice....i appreciate it ....and i'm not being sarcastic lol just in case you think that :D

The people who told you to buy another card just because you had problems was wrong imho....did you have problems with all of your games or just with BF1942?

As i mentioned above i only have problems with BF1942 so i think it's maybe a drivers issue......all my other games like SoF II, NWN, Morrowind and Vietcong run pretty well with no crashes....

Maybe the error has to do with my make of gf card...who knows... i guess i'll have to try...

Hello there clippmanta :t

As a matter of fact...the "exit to desktop" error occurs at non-constant time periods...sometimes i can play for 15 minutes, other for 1 hour....and sometimes even 2 ½ Hours....but sometimes it happens as soon as it loads my first map....

mmmmm.......could Dx9 be the problem? mmm.....don't think so...i'll try to revert to the last detonators before ForceWare 45.23....

Thanks for the help guys i'll inform the results when i get to more conclusions .....

well what ever works works.

I did not know you where from south america.

I hope you find a solution.

And no I am not offended. The card I bought was brand spanking new...played all of my other games except bf 1942. I mean how many drivers can you install and uninstall? I reformatted, installed another operating system, it was ok for me to get another graphic card because I was building my wife a computer so right now that mx peice of **** is in her system, and it has been running nicely for 8 monthes but I will never my a mx card again.

They just aren't the best gaming cards. Another member here bought a 128mb ddr version of a mx card (forget which one) and he had issues with it.

Maybe your right it is just a driver issue.

Make sure your audio is set up correctly in the game options.

of course i know they are not the best logan hehe ... but well...that's what i could afford at the time lol..... ;) btw mine's also 128MB as your friend's card ;) i haven't reverted the drivers yet...but i will tonight.... btw... i made some changes to a file as they suggest on the BF1942 forum and the stability increased greatly, here are the changes that i did:

I edited the "video default " file on the battlefield setting directory and change " renderer.allowAllRefreshRates" from 0 to 1 and then save..

then change the refresh rate and resolution inside de video settings while in the game...

I tell ya...much better stability but still crashes to desktop...i'll try the revert drivers thing and then post back..

And yes Rob R. the sound settings are ok.... i guess lol o_o

cya guys :t

LOL I did that too!

BUT I did not check out the bf 1942 forums.
I am sure it will work out for you.

Actually I changed that for some other reason on my radeon 7500 card which is in the same ball park of yours.

I'm not sure what to tell you as you have a better system than mine:

MSI 440 se 64 meg ocked to 270/390(added fan)

I've been playing bf1942 since the demo came out and now play Desert combat and road to rome(1.45 and 4j patches)Also running 45.23.and XPsp2.I'm not haveing any problems.Could it be your power supply?Maybe video card or cpu getting too warm?
