And Im talking about using a second video card (I already have a GF2 GTS) in a PCI slot to run the second monitor. Its not a big deal to me..I happend to run into a cheap 8mb vid card (one of those ones you see in bargain areas at Fry's or stores like that) and was wondering if I should even bother with sticking it in my machine. Does it slow things down big time? Just wanna know how it exactly works and stuff cause I know windows has support for it.

Thanx doodz/doodettez

You can get some information from this page on basic, how to setup a dual monitor:

Good Luck and playing around with multi monitor setup is fun.

Cheers!

I was running dual monitors (one on GeForce GTS AGP, one 1 MB PCI). No slow down noticed. My G450 Matrox dual head card is on its way with my 19" monitor, so I'll be able to give you better info regarding results soon.

No slowdown noticed (tnt-16mb agp slot+cl-4mb pci slot). If you think it slows down, you can use powerstrip to disable the second monitor under applications you choose.
Why would it cause slowdown anyway? I'd imagine that twinview adapters cause slowdown, but separate, no =)

Actually you are incorrect. Matrox dualhead cards don't slow down while in dual monitor mode whereas two cards DO slowdown, there can be mouse lag, driver sync lag etc from using two separate cards and drivers for doing what one video card and driver can handle locally.

I have a G400 MAX at work running a 22" and a 19". I have to say, it is awesome.

I have run dual monitor setup for quite some time and have not noticed any kind of slowdowns or sync type problems. The only problem I ran into was when I went from 98 to 2K and one of my video cards was no longer supported for a dual monitor setup. Now I'm running a GeForce256 AGP and a TNT2 PCI with no problems. Looks great!

Why would two cards cause lag? They do their job by themselves. The reason I imagined twinview would cause lag was that the card would have to do two jobs at the same time.
