Building a new system. Specs are below. I need a quality dial-up modem solution for this system. I don't have a dedicated line for internet access, so perhaps something that can work well with incoming calls & such. Need to be enlightened on modems. I'm open to suggestions...Thanks!

i've always used the actiontec call waiting usb modem. its a very good and reliable modem and i've never had problems with it. in fact i play online games with it and i get great pings, around 150-160. also, i love not missing phone calls anymore since i only have one line, hehe.

How about the Diamond SupraExpress 56 USB modem for use in Win2K? Is it worth it or would I be better off getting the PCI version. My mobo has no (0) ISA slots. Thanks again...

USRobotics, either internal or external. They are a little more expensive but there is a reason. Particularly good with less than perfect phone lines.

my sis has that modem, the supraexpress that is. except its a pci card one. in my exprience using it, its a piece of **** on my sis computer. god its horrible, and man i use to get so mad about it cuz i would get such aweful pings on it when i used my sis computer. pings were horrible, and also download rate. but now, i have my own computer, with a good modem and good everything else, so its all good http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif you might have better luck with the supraexpress modem, who knows.

If you do get a modem, stay away from ones that require "Microsoft Windows" or that say SoftModem or WinModem... they suck PC resources.

Definately adhere to to what Cody said.

US Robotics has always proved most excellent service to me. I strongly recommend them.
