Hi all,

Ok, i need some help. A group of us were sitting down eating dinner, when a friend of ours comes running up, saying that there was a fire in our dorm room, and that all the sprinklers went off, soaking all the rooms, and that his computer (and all ours too) were ruined in it. We all start freaking out, until he tells us that he made it all up. Now we may be just a bunch of computer geeks, but we took it pretty hard! So now, we are planning our revenge....

Any good ideas on what we should do to him? Nothing where he gets hurt, of course :) Perhaps some kind of computer practical joke....i've already done the "replace-your-desktop-with-a-printscreen-image" joke....it took him a while but he figured that out....anything else? hehe thanks :)

Reverse the keyboard and mouse connections.

Tape over optical mice laser emitters.

my jaw dropped as I was reading the part about the fire in the dorm and the sprinklers ruining everything (before I read he was joking) LOL. Just reading that the guy was joking made me mad!:D

Does he fileshare? send him a faked email to trick him into thinking he's been caught by the RIAA.:D

Do you have admin rights to his PC? If so, remove him from the admin group and change his wallpaper to this (http://www.ebaumsworld.com/fagcard.html). Do it using the local computer policy snap in for mmc and he won't be able to change it.

great ideas coming forth so far!

I think i'll try taping over his optical mouse, switching the mouse and keyboard connectors

steevo, i am definately going to try your prank...he is usually out of his room for hours at a time with his computer just sitting there running, so I think that i can do pretty much anything I want to it

I'll create a new thread once we have organized our forces and have moved in for the attack :)

what ? So he has to call MS and reactivate the product. It's not like I told him to use the tool to switch the product key to the same as the devils own product key and then kill those files. Oops, did I say that out loud ?

Sabotaging computers sure goes against the grain of this TECHNICAL SUPPORT site don't ya think?

I vote you guys/gals PM each other.

MJCfromCT, have you factored in that he’ll probably respond to your response. What if he isn’t as kind and thinks reformatting is funny?

Actually Steve, I'm sure the guys are just having a little fun. I don't think anyone here really wants to wreck the guys computer for a practical joke. On the other hand he could use a piece of Limburger cheese in the bottom of the case. ;)

Another one i do in work sometimes is download and install pstools (http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/pstools.shtml) on your own PC. Then use it to remotely open up applications, kill services and a whole host of other great, sneaky stuff. Obviously both PC's need to be on a network.

Joking aside for a sec. Pstools is an excellent utility that is really handy for any sys admin guys out there. :t

Steve R Jones,

I do not want to destroy his computer...he played a joke on us all, and now we are going to get him back...we don't want to do something that will erase his hard drive or make his motherboard catch on fire, just something that will annoy him to the point that he realizes he shouldn't mess with us

You could

Dangerous:
Make a floppy disc bomb
Remove the layer in the monitor that prevents the radiation from getting through the screen (warning... LETHAL!)
Make a lightbulb bomb
Install a random virus
Take a magnet to his screen/hdd

Pranks:
Remove the ATX power cable. The one that goes to the power switch. It wont switch on
Underclock his computer
Make a bootable disc that just comes up with a blue screen, insert the disc and shutdown the pc. He probably wont think of a bootable disc!
Remove his RAM
Make a simple VB program say that his computer will be shut down in ten seconds... and it shuts down the comp
Decide he needs a change of bootup sounds.... member to set the vol to max!! :D
Reenable messenger service
Put an extra fan in his computer, with a piece of tape attached to it. The tape will make a sound like summinks wrong.
Does he open his computer ever? If so, put a spider in there, with a little mechanism that will cause it to be released when the case is open. Possibly use the fan one to lure him into the case :D

Ok, use partition magic to repartition his HDD and install MDK 9.1 to that new partition and set LILO as the boot manager on the MBR.

Someone is going to close this thread because of the floppy disk bomb, it's still a bomb, and highly illigal because you can kill someone with one if tyou don't know what you're doing.

For me a great prank would be to take out his ram and put in some that is smaller in capacity and watch his machine drag real bad.

Remember that the prank he pulled on you was just a story, this is actually a psysichal prank:t

i agree with you about the floppy drive bomb...that is a bit over-the-top

however, i think that disabling L2 cache on his machine and underclocking his processor would be a great idea...he just got a new video card, and is expecting great things with regard to UT2003, CS, Red Faction...what a suprise he'll be in for when they run at 2fps...

lmao@the water

Penny the door shut; man that trick is great.

Also a good one is to go on ahead and put nair in his shampoo, but then again, that's a bit too far.

One really cool prank is to put powdered sugar under his bed's over cover. While he's asleep, turn on the heater, and watch him sweat and turn into a glased donut, lol.

Or you can put powered milk instead and have him stink when his pores open up and absorb the milk and sour up, lol.
