First thing is to contact your insurance company.
As to the surge protector, A.P.C. has all the info you need here (http://www.apcc.com/support/service/equipment_protection_policy.cfm) .

Lightning hit somewhere near and took out everything that was plugged in. My pc wasn't plugged in luckily. But my sisters Dell PII was and it's not booting. Every tv, phones, etc are fried. I had the pc plugged in to the apc surge protector. I have the receipt for everything and the surge protector also. They cover up to a certain amount for damages, but I don't know the specifics. Can someone help me out with the claim? What do I do?

I only had the surge protector so it's $250. I guess home insurance is going to be sending me a check. I never knew electronics are so easily fried in a storm. Yea that storm sucked. I'll watch out next time. I'm so lucky my new pc still needed memory or it would have been plugged in.
The damages insurance companies payed here were transformed into today-cost. Thus, the p3-800 you payed $1000 last week would be worth $100.
UPS is nice =)

I've got all my comps plugged in through UPS's with AVR technology. All is completely backed up. Plus I put a surge protecting wall socket in as well. I actually wouldn't mind lightning damaging some things, since all the protectors have lightning coverage. Sure, I'd be really inconvenienced for a while, but I'd get all new stuff.

I got the Per7T, which is a $25,000 limit.
What the insurance companies pay is dependent on your plan. My understanding of my plan is that they will either replace parts with equivalent parts, OR reimburse you for their current values.

That's right..if you carry replacement cost insurance..that's what you get..like kind and quality..very often that means an upgrade
