Was the sound my CD-R made when it went *poof* last night. I wasn't even recording anything...it just decided to self-destruct. Anywho, I'm now in the market for a new one.
Maybe I should splurge on a DVD+-R. I don't know how much DVD/video burning I would do, but one never knows. I was looking at Lite-On's CD-RWs. Anyone recommend them? I have a Lite-On DVDROM, which is great and cheap.
Any comments greatly appreciated. :t

I have a DVD+-R/RW at home, works great, but they still are a bit slow.
I plan on waiting for the prices to drop a little, and for them to speed up a bit before I get one for this computer.
I am a plextor CD-R/RW fan

Yep, I'd recommend the Lite-Ons - cheap, but definitely cheerful :) I've got one that's been running almost two years now with no complaints at all.

I voted for CDRW, its still the cheapest way of backing up. DVDrw prices have long way to go before they come to some acceptable price levels and also speedwise they are very slow.
I remember how 2x and 4x cdrw came at very high price tag earlier then after just 2 years all of sudden there was an explosion of 16x 24x 32x 40x 48x and then 52x...phew??

I think DVDr will become worthwhile when the speed goes up.. Shouldn't be too long now. But CDRW are nice and cheap and reliable (for the most part) I was lookin at upgrading my old HP burner and will definetly have to look into the Lite-Ons

Like lite-on as well.
Was shopping around for dvd burner last night. Newegg has a liteon for $179 or something like that.
Like everyone else has said and i agree, im waiting for the speed to go up and the price to go down before i jump on dvd burner wagon, maybe first of year or so

Thanks for the feedback ppl. I'm definately satisfied with my LiteOn DVDrom. I'm looking at their CDRWs. Btw, the burner was Iomega. It lasted many years and I really never had an issue with it until I went to WinXPpro, where burning capabilities had some issues. But, it was an old model with known issues.
At any rate, thanx again. :t
