I have an ATI 9800 installed on a ASUS P4C800 Deluxe mobo.

The card and mobo both support 8x AGP but when i go into SMARTGART, it informs me I am runng 4x with FW off.

I pulled the slider up to 8x and set FW to ON. The system asked me to re-boot.

After re-boot, i check SMARTGART and it says i am back in 4x mode.

This is driving me crazy :)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

basically you have to install ATI catalyst driver ( use ver.3.5) to correct this problem. what version do you have?

A) ATI app. can only enable it in windows. It must also be enabled in bios to work. FW and 8x are both also in bios. Turn on there first. Secondly run the windows app. If all was well when installing video drivers it runs a test-if able 8x and FW are set to on. If they fail-turned off. Yours failed.
B) Not ati-but your system. So narrow it down. Start with bios settings I listed. THen enable in windows. If still dont work means your mobo dont fully support 8x right now. Lots of bios's are having problems with true 8x support some not even booting when set to 8x.......Fast Writes have always been more trouble then worth. Gain is minimal at best but it sure likes to cause problems alot more than the gains are worth. Off or on, my benches and speed in games are indentical. Kinda like Write Combining can be a pain.:t
